View all threadsAs you all know, Jim Croft is this year's Lifetime Achievement Award
Recipient. Given how fond Jim is of music in general, and his trombone in
particular, I'm reaching out to see if people with musical instruments
would be willing to bring them to the Saturday night banquet? We think it
might be nice to play some music in honor of Jim.
If you know of anyone else that plays an instrument, especially a trombone,
and would consider bringing their instrument to the banquet please also let
them know.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey Todd, this only went to Exec. Did you want to put something together to
sends addendum to the list of registered attendees or keep it a surprise?
I am extremely terrible and unpracticed at ukulele improv since pandemic
times but you may know that one way to organize this is to pick a few of
popular tunes that people can download chord or “tab” sheets for, practice
& bring with them to jam in a basic key arrangement.
Finding and making joy with whom and where we can is important! (Whether or
not a soprano uke can be even be heard over a trombone 😅)

Nora,
Great suggestion! I am not a musician but I plan to bring along my clap
sticks (a traditional Australian instrument carved by a bloke I know). If I
could read music I would want to practice ahead of time. Does anyone on
this like know a few songs to suggest that will tickle Jim's fancy?
Yours in making joy,
Bridget

Hi Nora,
I'm going to have to admit that I am pretty ignorant when it comes to
musical instruments and the playing of them. I'm going to defer to others
on this, I just wanted to make sure that we were doing what we could to
make this special for Jim.
All suggestions, and especially help, are appreciated on this.
Best,
Todd

And lyric sheets or cards (half-sheets) at the tables for singalong (or
karaoke projection) if there is a screen projection so it goes more than
one chorus. Print at hotel business center?
Can a board exec set up a viewable sub folder?

I love the enthusiasm but I think we might want to be somewhat targeted
with this.
There has been a suggestion made that this might be a good thing to do to
signal the end of the cocktail hour and the move into the dinner. Just
playing, so singing, but I think that When the Saints might work really
well as a song for that.
Adding any projection at this point is costly so we probably need to avoid
that. I also think a sing-along might take away a little bit from the
musical instrument part of it.
Again, I do appreciate the brainstorming for making this special for Jim.
If you are planning on bringing an instrument, please be in touch with me

I’ve found a good selection of scores for various instruments, so we can
have some variety on the same composition.
Jay Tanner is going to bring his trumpet. I’ll bring my flute. I also have
a penny whistle if someone else feels brave. If there are folks who are not
on the boards who are musically inclined, it may help to get the word
around.
Also, if Peter and Donna will be there, I guarantee there will be a ukelele
and an accordion.
I think Jim always travels with his trombone, so I wouldn’t be surprised if
he wants to join in.

And lyric sheets or cards (half-sheets) at the tables for singalong (or
karaoke projection) if there is a screen projection so it goes more than
one chorus. Print at hotel business center?
Can a board exec set up a viewable sub folder?

Thank you Bridget and Mary!
Having the sheet music might be a really good idea and this piece of
music seems to make sense, as far as I can tell.
Best,

I think this a good number. I’ve found sheet music for all kindof of
instruments and I’m going to attempt to relearn my flute. We shall see.

Hey Todd, this only went to Exec. Did you want to put something
together to sends addendum to the list of registered attendees or keep it a
surprise?
I am extremely terrible and unpracticed at ukulele improv since
pandemic times but you may know that one way to organize this is to pick a
few of popular tunes that people can download chord or “tab” sheets for,
practice & bring with them to jam in a basic key arrangement.
Finding and making joy with whom and where we can is important!
(Whether or not a soprano uke can be even be heard over a trombone 😅)

As you all know, Jim Croft is this year's Lifetime Achievement Award
Recipient. Given how fond Jim is of music in general, and his trombone in
particular, I'm reaching out to see if people with musical instruments
would be willing to bring them to the Saturday night banquet? We think it
might be nice to play some music in honor of Jim.
If you know of anyone else that plays an instrument, especially a
trombone, and would consider bringing their instrument to the banquet
please also let them know.
Let me know if you have any questions.
