Hello fellow bookbinders and book enthusiasts and scholars,
I am working on a book about Ellen Gates Starr, co-founder of Hull House in
Chicago, who studied bookbinding with Cobden-Sanderson in 1897-1899. I have
identified 125 of her bindings, but know the location of only about one
third of them. Most of her bindings are similar in style to
Cobden-Sanderson/Doves Bindery books (full leather with intricate gold
tooling). She usually signed her bindings EGS with the date at the foot of
the back turn-in. In the hopes that I can locate more of these bindings,
I've included below a list of the missing bindings, with binding dates and
provenance information. Please respond directly to me if you know where any
of them are located. I would be glad to provide more details; I do have
images of some of the bindings, as well as some binding descriptions.

I'd also appreciate suggestions of additional places to look for these
bindings: I've consulted auction records, world cat and other library
catalogues, the ilibris list, and of course, various bookseller and general
online searches.

Thanks VERY much. I apologize to people who get this email twice. Please
forward my message to anyone whom you think might be able to help me.
