Congratulations to the winners of the 2025 Helen Warren DeGolyer Competition for American Bookbinding!

We appreciate everyone who submitted an entry into the competition this year and everyone who was able to attend the Conference/Exhibition in person last Thurs. and Friday.  Also a special thanks to our workshop presenters at this year's conference: Erin Fletcher, Cheryl Jacobsen, Madison Bennett, and Graham Patten.

Helen Warren DeGolyer Award - Winner: Lang Ingalls

  • Awarded to a binder whose combined entry (design proposal and example binding) demonstrates the ability to create an exceptional binding for New Borders: The Working Life of Elizabeth Friedlander by Pauline Paucker.  Comes with a six-thousand-dollar ($6000) commission to execute the proposed binding on the competition book.

Award for Excellence in Fine Binding - Winner: Karen Hanmer

  • The Award for Excellence in Fine Binding recognizes a completed binding distinguished by its structure, technique, and use of materials and comes with a two-thousand-dollar ($2,000.00) prize.

Award for Design - Winner: Beth Redmond

  • The Award for Design recognizes a design proposal distinguished as an inventive, effective, and appropriate representation of the competition book, New Borders: The Working Life of Elizabeth Friedlander, and comes with a one-thousand-dollar ($1,000.00) prize.
