Hey Chapter Chairs,

Just a quick reminder that we will be meeting from 4:00 - 5:30pm next
Wednesday, Sept 27th in the Franciscan C room of the conference hotel
. We
will use this time to share what we've all been up to for the last year,
but let me know if there are particular topics that you would like to
discuss. I've invited Todd Pattison, the incoming VP, to drop by and say
hello. We'll end 30 min before the dinner/board meeting, so you will have
some time to stretch your legs and make your way over to the restaurant
(should be just across the street).

Please take a moment to update the Volunteer Roster with your chapter
officer's info on the 2023/24 tab of this spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZtztnfudPDw53luD1qZ7Hgo2QGU322i6oSmjukIbapw/edit?usp=sharing
It will make Marianna's job a lot easier in getting folks on the listservs,
access to the board area, etc.

For those of you who I won't see at Standards, it was great to serve
alongside you for the last 2 years! Chapters are the closest point of
contact with GBW for many of our members, so you really are the engine that
drives this organization forward. I know being a Chapter Chair is often a
tough and sometimes thankless job, but your work is so important! Thank you
for your service.

Todd will take over this email account at the end of the month, so if you
need to get in touch with me in the future please use
henry.j.hebert@gmail.com.

Thanks again and hope to see you in San Francisco!

Hi Henry,

The California chapter has two co-chairs. Can we both go to the chapter meeting?

Best,

Rebecca

Hi Henry, (and Todd!)
I just finished up the NW Chapter board meeting and we have a couple of
ideas/thoughts that you might want to consider for the Chapter Chair
meeting. these ideas are ways to convince members to renew after the dues
are increased.

  1. Could the Guild be a clearinghouse for exhibition opportunities
nationally and even internationally? Something an electronic newsletter
would be able to do more efficiently than a paper one. Our chapter does a
monthly email--just a quick informational communication that includes
    timely notices.
  2. Could there be an "artists' books" correspondent for the newsletter?
Many members are book artists and one of our board members thought that
part of the guild was not adequately represented in the Newsletter.  might
be the same for the Journal and the website.
  3. Would it be useful (and has it been done?) to do an analysis of the
membership to see just what percentages of the members are conservators,
book artists, fine binders, teachers/academics, etc? Then think about
making sure there is adequate representation for each of these areas in all
    the Guild's work.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in San Francisco next week.
