*Limp Vellum Binding Workshop in the style of Kelmscott Press taught by
Karen Hanmer *British Arts and Crafts era printers William Morris
(Kelmscott Press) and T.J. Cobden-Sanderson (Doves Press) both chose to
bind their iconic works in limp vellum cases. Because these bindings are so
devoid of ornament, differing aspects of their construction such as the
tone and figuring of the vellum, color of the sewing supports and
thread, uniformity
of the visible turn-ins, overlapping comers, and the organic slit edges (as
opposed to trimmed) become design elements. Students in this workshop will
examine models of both and discuss these characteristics before constructing
an 80% sized facsimile of a Kelmscott Press binding.  *This is a fast-paced
workshop for students experienced with traditional binding. *

Dates: June 12th and 13th, 2021 Time: 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm CST *Two
three-hour Zoom sessions *Deadline for Registration: May 21st, 2021 *Cost:
*$250.00 for members, $300 for non-members.

*Price INCLUDES Shipping and Supplies: Paper for text block, endsheets,
spine lining, prototype case; ribbon for sewing supports and lacing on
case; thread and needle, vellum for case; blotters and barriers **Karen
Hanmer’s work is included in collections ranging from The British Library
and the Library of Congress to *Stanford University and Graceland. She
offers workshops and private instruction in traditional binding skills.
