January Chapter Chair Meeting

HH
Henry Hébert
Wed, Dec 15, 2021 3:07 PM

Hey folks,

As promised, I'm sending a poll to figure out the best time for us to have
a meeting in mid/late January. Please fill this out by end of day Thursday,
December 23rd:
https://doodle.com/poll/x6ugad5hhkwwruu4?utm_source=poll&utm_medium=link

I've included both afternoon and evening time slots, since we are spread
out over several timezones. Hopefully there is something in there that will
work. Once everyone has participated in the poll I will follow up with a
meeting invite and Agenda doc.

Thanks!
HH

Hi everyone,

I hope you are having a good holiday and have the opportunity to take a
break from work. Thank you all for filling out the doodle poll. This is
quite a tough group to schedule, so I just flipped a coin between the two
most popular times. Our meeting will be Monday, January 17th at 3pm (ET).
Apologies if that time doesn't work for you.

I'm including the zoom invite below. I've also created an agenda document
that has space for folks to write some quick updates about your chapter:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eyRRyqY2xu0thQBDWMu0VRiX_r2_uh8mwOdrvupI_LE/edit?usp=sharing

I hope you can all take some time to look and answer the 4 prompts: *What’s
going on in the chapter now? Where do you want the chapter to go in the
next year? What obstacles will you have to overcome? What resources do you
need? * Even if you aren't able to make the meeting, I'd like you to answer
these questions. Responses don't have to be long, just bullet points are
fine. I'm hoping these will give me a sense of where everyone is at, and
how I can help. I'd like to use this meeting to think about goal setting or
topics of interest that we center future meetings around. Either short
workshops or maybe just information sharing/support group style.

Take care and happy new year!
See you soon,
HH

Hello Henry-

Thank you for the email and setting up our next meeting. And thanks for the holiday wishes!

I am asking my board to take a look at your questions and let me know what they want me to bring to the meeting.  I have some thoughts of my own, but I just wanted to be sure the board members know there is this opportunity for them to get their ideas in the mix.

Thanks! Looking forward to our meeting~

Hi everyone,

I hope you are having a good holiday and have the opportunity to take a break from work. Thank you all for filling out the doodle poll. This is quite a tough group to schedule, so I just flipped a coin between the two most popular times. Our meeting will be Monday, January 17th at 3pm (ET). Apologies if that time doesn't work for you.

I'm including the zoom invite below. I've also created an agenda document that has space for folks to write some quick updates about your chapter:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eyRRyqY2xu0thQBDWMu0VRiX_r2_uh8mwOdrvupI_LE/edit?usp=sharing

I hope you can all take some time to look and answer the 4 prompts: What’s going on in the chapter now? Where do you want the chapter to go in the next year? What obstacles will you have to overcome? What resources do you need?  Even if you aren't able to make the meeting, I'd like you to answer these questions. Responses don't have to be long, just bullet points are fine. I'm hoping these will give me a sense of where everyone is at, and how I can help. I'd like to use this meeting to think about goal setting or topics of interest that we center future meetings around. Either short workshops or maybe just information sharing/support group style.

Take care and happy new year!

See you soon,

HH

Potomac:

What are we up to: next event January 15th New Years zoom. I’m going to lead a Hedi Kyle double hitter from her book Art of the Fold.

Going into the next year: we are hoping to get some more participation from new people and also we want to do at least one engagement activity per quarter. (Jan. 15th first one)

What we need: we really need some board members, many people are moving on. I feel our chapter has a shrinking population of members who are willing to participate in planning commitments.

I’m going to see if someone can listen to the meeting. I don’t think I can do 3pm. I have to be at work then and I can’t do outside stuff.

Thanks, Shannon! I know the timing of the meeting doesn't work for
everyone, so it's totally fine if someone else attends as a chapter
representative. That option is open to everyone! We can also record the
meeting, if folks are comfortable with that.

I forgot to mention before: You should be able to edit that google agenda
doc, so feel free to put your updates in there. Sending via email is fine,
too. I've started listing some potential topics for future meetings. It
sounds like a number of chapters are going through leadership transition,
so maybe that is fertile ground for discussion. Feel free to add other
topics that would be helpful for you and your volunteers.

Happy new year!

Thanks, Shannon! I know the timing of the meeting doesn't work for everyone, so it's totally fine if someone else attends as a chapter representative. That option is open to everyone! We can also record the meeting, if folks are comfortable with that. I forgot to mention before: You should be able to edit that google agenda doc, so feel free to put your updates in there. Sending via email is fine, too. I've started listing some potential topics for future meetings. It sounds like a number of chapters are going through leadership transition, so maybe that is fertile ground for discussion. Feel free to add other topics that would be helpful for you and your volunteers. Happy new year! For California:

We are busy with the planning of our third members show to be held at the San Francisco Center for the Book later this year.

We want to continue to host workshops and member events via Zoom. Our members live all over this big state of ours so it makes it possible to see everyone more often.

We are always struggling with finding volunteers. It really ends up being a strong core of seven or so members that end up doing everything.

See you on the 17th.

What’s going on in the chapter now? Where do you want the chapter to go in the next year? What obstacles will you have to overcome? What resources do you need?
