Greetings, GBW!
*The Guild of Bookworkers New England Chapter Annual Meeting *is just a
week away! Please join us at Shepherd and Maudsleigh Studio on Tuesday,
August 26th at 6:30pm for an evening of gathering with friends, debriefing
about the past year, and coming up with plans for the future! We would
really love to hear from all of you and find out what you'd like to see
more of going forward.
Our loose agenda for the evening is as follows:
-
Snacks and mingles! Get a plate of food and say hi to your pals.
- *Annual Report Debrief: quick discussion about all the things we did
last year *
-
Open up the floor to your ideas about what you'd like to see next
year. Workshops? Talks? Exhibitions? We are SO excited to hear your
thoughts and get planning!
-
Free time to tour the space and observe Boston-based multimedia
artist Lily Yù Jié while she works on a new copper etching! Attendees are
welcome to ask Lily questions about their process. (More about Lily can be
found at the bottom of this email)
- *Eat more snacks! *
We especially encourage students and others who are new to the bookbinding
community to attend this event. We are a big, friendly, welcoming group of
craft-minded folks and we always want to engage with and encourage new
craftspeople. If you know of anyone just starting out or looking to learn
more, please bring them along to the meeting!
For those who are too far away to make the in-person event, please reach
out with your thoughts about how we can be more inclusive of the larger
community. New England is a big place and we are working to reach folks who
are further afield.
Below, you will find Shepherd & Maudsleigh's address and Lily Yù Jié's bio.
If you have any questions about the meeting, the Guild, or the snack menu,
please reach out to anyone on our team!

Lily is a Chinese American printmaker primarily working in intaglio and
illustration. They also experiment with relief, painting, collage,
bookmaking, and sound.
BFA printmaking from Massachusetts College of Art and Design 2022.
"My work explores themes of life, death, and grief through observation of
cycles of nature. My recent work is focused on spiritual differences
between the so-called East and West. The alchemical copperplate etching
process speaks to the subject of death and rebirth; lines of shimmering
copper, transmuted by acid and ink into a final print. The compositions
reference classical religious art of the European Renaissance and Baroque
periods, upon which imagery that speaks to my relationship with
spirituality is superimposed. Abstractions of energetic forces found in
nature are also incorporated as a personal iconography."
