Honorarium for presenters?

Hi all,

I have a couple questions regarding paying presenters & instructors:

  1. What do you all pay as an honorarium fee for someone giving a talk? The
chapter handbook lets us decide so I'm trying to get an idea of what a
    reasonable fee is.
  2. For workshops, do you have a pay scale that corresponds with
teacher experience or just have one flat fee?

Thanks,
Holly

Hi Holly,

We pay a flat fee for all class instructors and per diems for related expenses.
For speakers we offer $100 as a fee. I have had some who will speak for free even when I have offered payment.
Hope this helps.

Hi, Holly,
NW pays $150 for a speaker and tours. The two other book arts organizations
in our region (not affiliated with GBW) both pay more generous honoraria.
Over $300.

Workshops tend to vary depending on the details of the workshop (length,
materials, handouts or whatever else the presenter needs).

We have a workshop coming up with Andrew Huot where Andrew had a set fee,
then we estimated how many attendees we needed to break even. We decided to
split any additional profit revenue with Andrew. And we are charging a
little more for nonmembers. Pretty standard. You can see this workshop
announcement on the GBW website.

I am copying Paula Jull, our events coordinator and Michael Sobel our
treasurer on this email. They may want to add/ suggest to my description.

Hope things are going well for you!

Hi Holly,

Thanks for starting this conversation, as it's a really good one to have.

I don't have anything to share on this because it has been a while since
I've been a Chapter Chair but I do think a lot of times workshop fees are
dependent on what the what the instructor charges.

Best,
Todd

Unfortunately, I do not have much to share, given the dearth of
opportunities recently in the MIdwest, but for our upcoming annual
gathering, I have asked if the workshop instructors have a standard fee and
if not, suggest one. From there, we determine the price for
members/non-members.
