A Regional Works on Paper Juried Exhibition Gittins Gallery, University of Utah, Salt Lake City 2nd – 27th November 2015
Call for Entries
Organized by the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Utah, this competitive juried regional exhibition will showcase contemporary works on paper by artists throughout the Intermountain West. The exhibition will take place in the Gittins Gallery on the campus of the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Eligibility & Media
All artists (18 years and older) residing in AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, WA, WY and UT are eligible to enter. Original works in Book Arts, Digital Prints, Drawing, Photography, Printmaking (including Monoprints) and 3D Paper Works are eligible. Works must be completed in the last two years (Students and employees of the University of Utah are ineligible to apply).
Maximum 2D framed size: 52 x 40 inches.
Maximum 3D size: 24 x 24 x 24 inches.
We will not consider offset reproductions, nor digital reproductions of artwork originally produced in another medium.
Juror: Shelby Shadwell.
Shelby Shadwell received his BFA from Washington University School of Fine Art in St. Louis, where he studied printmaking and drawing as a Kenneth E. Hudson Scholar. He accepted a full fellowship to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale and went on to graduate with an MFA in printmaking and drawing in 2006. Shelby actively exhibits across the nation and was recently featured in the International Drawing Annual 5 and 6 publications through the Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he also had a solo show in February 2013. He was invited to participate in two small group exhibitions, “Defining Territory: Contemporary Drawing” at the Parkland Art Gallery in Champaign, Illinois, in fall of 2013 and “SHADES: Contemporary Drawing” at the John A. Day Gallery at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, in the spring of 2014. Shelby was the recipient of the First Place Award for his work in the Texas National 2014 Exhibition at the Cole Art Center in Nacogdoches. Submissions deadline: Friday, 18th September 2015. Notification emails: Thursday, 2nd October 2015. Accepted Works deadline: Friday, 23rd October 2015. Reception: Thursday, 5th November 2015.
Exhibition: 2nd November – 27th November 2015.
Submit up to three images by email or CD.
Images must be a 300 dpi in jpeg format and no larger than 1500 pixels on the longest side. Label each image with your last name, followed by title and entry number. i.e.= Bloggs_goodprint_1.jpg

A non-refundable fee of $20.00 must accompany the entry form and allows the artist to submit images of three works. Checks or money orders must be made payable to University of Utah. Lack of fee or an incomplete entry form will disqualify the entry.

All entries, includind emailed images must be received by Friday, September 18th 2015. This is NOT a postmark deadline.
Delivery & Return of Artworks
Works accepted must be hand-delivered or shipped ready for installation; works must be framed under plexi (no glass permitted); works must be securely mounted and framed with all necessary hardware attached for hanging. Accepted works larger than 30”x40” or that require special installation must be accompanied with instructions (please be explicit) and all necessary hardware for exhibition.
All shipping and shipping insurance costs for artwork to and from the University of Utah are the responsibility of the artist. Make sure your shipping box is sturdy enough to reuse for return shipping and includes sufficient packing. PLEASE NO PACKING PEANUTS. Prepaid return postage and a pre-addressed mailing label must accompany all artwork. No cash payments for return shipping and no C.O.D.’s.

Hand-delivered works will be available for pick up from the Gittins Gallery: November 30th, 2015, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Sales & Awards
Sales will be encouraged, and a commission of 20% will be collected on all artwork sold through the exhibition. A number of awards will be given, funded by entry fees. There may also be purchase awards.
The University of Utah Department of Art and Art History will exercise reasonable care in handling but cannot insure works while in transit. The University of Utah Department of Art and Art History reserves the right to install the accepted works in the manner deemed necessary for exhibition or security reasons. Works that differ markedly from the submitted image will be disqualified. Accepted and exhibited artwork may be reproduced for promotional purposes. Sending an entry constitutes an agreement by the artist to the conditions set forth above.
The names of all accepted artists, images of their work and images of the exhibition will be documented on the Art & Art History website.
