BRIGHT HILL LITERARY CENTER ANNOUNCES ANNUAL SUMMER &
FALL WORKSHOPS FOR KIDS AND ADULTS
TREADWELL, NY, IN THE CATSKILL MOUNTAIN REGION -- Bright Hill Literary Center in
Treadwell announces its 15th annual Summer and Fall Workshops programs for Kids and
Adults. All workshops will take place in Bright Hill's Education Wing, located at 94 Church
Street, Treadwell, NY, one block north of Barlow's General Store (Main Street). Spaces are
The Summer Literary Workshops for Kids programs, during
which participants will write and make artists' books; sculpt; make
solar prints with soy-based, water-soluble paints; and paint, include:
1. June 29 - July 3 (students 5-14) - The Call of the Wild, which includes learning the
summer habits of Catskill Mountain Creatures;
2. August 3 - 7 (students 5-14) - Creating Mechanical Gizmos, which includes making
kinetic toys; and
3. Auust 17 - 21 (students 10-17) - Writing, painting, and gold leaf illumination
The workshops are led by Bertha Rogers, assisted by senior intern Will Henry, a
rising junior at Alfred University; Elizabeth Moon, a rising junior at Delhi Central School;
Cheryl Fischetti, a rising senior at Delhi Central School, and others. Pre-registration is
The only charge for these workshops is a $25 materials fee, and the workshops are
available to all. All workshops are from 9 am - 2:30 pm. Free morning and afternoon snacks
are provided, but students must bring their own lunches.
The Adult Summer & Fall workshops will focus on poetry and
book arts and will include:
1. June 11 (adults), 3 - 5 pm, followed by dish-to-pass dinner and Word Thursdays
evening reading program - Poetry Writing and Publishing, with Liz Rosenberg and Joe Weil,
both of whom who teach at Binghamton University. Rosenberg and Weil will be featured at
Word Thursdays at 7 pm. Fee is $10, plus dish-to-pass; members $7, plus dish-to-pass.
2. June 24 (adults), 6 - 9 pm, Pop-up and Movable Parts Artist's Book Workshop, led
by Bertha Rogers. Fee is $15, including materials; members, $10.
3. October 10 (adults), 9 am - 3 pm, Intensive Book Arts Workshop: Sewn bindings,
including Booklet, Japanese stab, Yamato Toji, Daifuko Cho (Ledger), Hantori Cho (Receipt),
and Coptic. Led by Bertha Rogers, 9 am - 3 pm. The fee is $45, including materials;
