[GBW] "The Well-Dressed Book" Exhibit & Symposium, University of Maryland

The University of Maryland Libraries’ exhibit “The Well-Dressed Book: 
Cloth Book Binding in the United States, 1830—1920,” will open February 
4, 2008. The exhibit explores the origins of cloth publishers’ bindings, 
aspects of the design and manufacture of book bindings, bookbinding in 
19^th century Baltimore, and the challenges of preservation. The exhibit 
is presented in the Maryland Room Gallery, R. Lee Hornbake Library, 
University of Maryland, College Park and runs through June 30, 2008.

On Friday, March 14, 2008, the University of Maryland Libraries will 
host “The Well-Dressed Book: A Symposium on Nineteenth-Century American 
Cloth Binding,”. The day-long symposium will feature scholars, curators, 
and collectors exploring cloth publishers' bindings in 
nineteenth-century America. The program will feature a number of leading 
experts, including Michael Winship, Sue Allen, Steve Beare, Jessica 
Lacher-Feldman, Robert Milevski, Douglas McElrath, and Randy Silverman.
