An Illustrated Calligraphy Lecture by Nancy Leavitt
6:00 pm. Thursday, June 21, 2007
Brickbottom Artists Building
Somerville, MA

The New England Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers is pleased to present
an illustrated talk by Nancy Leavitt of Stillwater, Maine. Nancy is an
internationally recognized calligrapher and book artist, whose contemporary
illuminated manuscript books are filled with lettering, poetry, and colorful
painting. As calligraphy correspondent for the Guild of Book Workers, she
writes about lettering and book arts. Her work is represented in public and
private collections around the world. In her talk she will describe her
process for creating her exquisite books, from start to finish. An example
of her work, Outside the Realm of Time, can be seen in the Guild's online
exhibit at
http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/byorg/gbw/gallery/100anniversary/index.shtml.
This is a wonderful opportunity to be inspired by a truly gifted artist.

Directions to the Brickbottom Artists Building can be found at
www.brickbottom.org.

The New England Chapter annual meeting will follow the lecture.
Afterwards, chapter members are invited to join us for some socializing, drinks and dinner at the nearby Union Square Restaurant, The Independent.
