Hi Marnie,
That sounds like a great program. It's time for another road trip!
Have you and Madelyn talked about revisiting Westward Bound yet? - at
least whether the chapter can be involved or not?
If not, I had better get started in setting up an upcoming chapter show
project. Just need to know . . .
Cheers,
Karen

The Book Arts Program at the J. Willard Marriott library presents an
upcoming one-day presentation and demonstration on scrapbook
preservation:

COSPONSORED PRESENTATION AND DEMONSTRATION Preserving Scrapbooks
September 7th, Friday, 9:00-5:00 The Church History department of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Book Arts Program
present Deborah Wender.
Scrapbooks and albums present a range of preservation challenges.
Finding solutions for their care can be difficult. Learn about the
structure of scrapbooks, the types of materials commonly found in them,
methods of attachment, and the implications for preservation and
conservation. Discuss selection and preparation for reformatting, as
well as low-cost, in-house preservation approaches. Bring examples for
examination and consultation. Deborah Wender studied at Centro del bel
Libro in Ascona, Switzerland and under Hugo Peller and Edwin Heim. She
serves as a consultant and advisor to institutions concerning the
preservation of their collections and teaches on various aspects on
conservation and preservation. She has worked as a binder and book
conservator at a commercial hand bindery in Boston, in private practice,
and for the Bostonian Society. She is a member of the AIC, ICON, the
ALA, the SAA, the Guild of Book Workers, and the New England
Conservation Association. She is the Director of Book Conservation at
Northeast Document Conservation Center in Andover, Massachusetts.

Speaker: Deborah Wender, Massachusetts
